Druecke’s work with welcome mats began in late 2016 as a response to dramatically changing political landscapes in the United States and around the globe. As communities and countries debate what it means to belong, Druecke used welcome mats to search for common ground and to explore the potential, and potential limits, of language as trope and tool.
Initial research on the project undertaken while in residence at The Luminary in St. Louis MO, with additional support by a Mary L. Nohl Suitcase Export Award.
